Baggage
allowance on SWA- Three checked bag's and one item of carry on
baggage plus a personal item, like a laptop computer, are allowed per
customer. The maximum weight for each checked bag is 50 pounds, with
maximum dimensions of 62 total linear inches (length + width + height).
baggage in excess is charged at fifty dollars per piece, up to nine
pieces, and one hundred ten dollars for each piece up to 10 pieces or
more. Overweight bags weighing between 51-70 pounds will be charged
twenty five dollars each; bags weighing between 71-100 pounds cost one
hundred dollars each. Oversized luggage between 62 and 80 linear inches
will also be charged one hundred dollars each. Any item weighing more
than 100 pounds or measuring more than 80 linear inches must be shipped
by cargo. Carry on bags must not be larger than 50 linear inches.
Changes to passenger name or flights-
Ticket refunds and changes can be
made online by canceling your flight reservation or by calling the
reservations number.
Child fares- infants under two years of age travel for free, if they
travel on an adult's lap. Youth fares are available for those
between 12 and 22, but are not available online and must be booked at
the reservation desk. Unaccompanied children 5 through 11 years of age
must travel as unaccompanied minors; a form must be filled out. This can
be done online, or you can inquire at the reservations number.
Senior fares- available for those 65 and over. Prices vary. Senior
airfares are fully refundable and exchangeable. Fares can be booked
online or at the reservations number.
Pet travel- pets are not allowed on any Southwest Airlines flights,
with the exception of service animals, ex. seeing-eye dogs.
Pre-assigned seating- Southwest Airline operates an open-seating
policy, though passengers are boarded in three levels (boarding cards
"A" first, then "B", followed by "C"), so please check-in early.
Leg room- there is 32 – 33 inches of leg room. In-flight service- on several flights that are no less than two hours
long, peanuts and pretzels will be served. On non-stop flights at more
than two hours long, a packaged snack will be served. Complimentary
coffee, tea and non-alcoholic drinks are available. Beer, wine or
cocktails are available for sale ($3 each for beer and wine; $4 for
cocktails).
Air miles- the frequent flyer program, 'Rapid Rewards', lets you to
earn miles when you fly Southwest airline. Rapid Rewards are based on
the number of flights made, rather than the miles you travel and
redeemed with a number of companies, including Alamo, Budget, Hertz and
Hilton.
